Project objective: Introduction to the market of an innovative technology for the restoration of degraded or desertified soils with the Scarabaeus machine, by demonstrating it, improving it in principle for performance in hot climate, bringing it to market in an arid zone in Spain.

During the implementation of the project, the introduction to the market of an innovative technology for the restoration of degraded or desertified soils with the Scarabaeus machine, by demonstrating it, improving it in principle for performance in hot climate, bringing it to market in an arid zone in Spain will be carried out. With this technology, the soil is restored by inserting an organic soil conditioner locally, only at the plant growth lines, directly into the root growth zone in 15 cm diameter underground inserts. The spaces between the centers of the inserts are 55-75 cm. This enables the soil improver to be applied not to the entire area, as in traditional cultivation technology, but only to the growth lines, thus reducing the amount of application by 5 times. Up to 50% of irrigation water is saved by using sapropel ameliorant. For agriculture, these are commercially viable conditions for soil restoration activities. The project will carry out R&D research for the fundamental improvement of the machine and technology, adapting it to operate in the real hot climate conditions of the arid zone.
